Description
Back in the late 70s "Another Time, Another Place" was an exclusive for a short time, for me at Cleethorpes Winter Gardens, slotting seamlessly into my sets along side the likes of Tony Middleton - Paris Blues, Arin Demain - Silent Treatment, Clarence Hill - A Lot Of Lovin' Goin' Round etc. That gravel coated big male voice was so in vogue with the hugely receptive Cleethorpes dancefloor.
But today I prefer the flipside "Step In to My World" and that's the side we showcase first on this listing, of New York "Beat Ballad Heaven" x 2. A double-serving from a master of the "Big City Sound", Robert Banks constructs two almighty examples of The Big Apple's penchant for the powerhouse Beat-Ballad.
The acutely gifted Robert Banks from his strong Gospel roots was also an accomplished keyboard player, guitarist, lyricist, arranger, producer. His credits can be found on a multitude of independent Northern Soul products from in and around New York. All his cuts, Harry's presence behind the microphone sent shivers through me...the perfect Big Vocal presence Northern Soul fans adore. Gnarled, grisly, delightfully frayed but not broken, Soulfully shattered with emotional hairline vocal chord cracks.
Truly one of the greatest creators of the "Beat Ballad Sound", Roberts Banks was a master-craftsman guiding a heart-stopping vocal, so now enjoy his work twice over.
Condition Report
Two bright clean eye-candy label, the rich orange makes an exquisite marriage to slate blue, one of USA record label's most riveting colour schemes (see eye-candy) images. Full gloss near mint minus vinyl giving up only the merest inconsequential soft sleeve storage blemish under light. A tip top copy!
