Emperor X brings "Ostrich Toss" to A Fistful of Vinyl in a stripped-down session from the project of Chad R. Matheny, the Kentucky-born, Berlin-based songwriter who's been making eccentric, lyrically dense underground pop since 1998. "Ostrich Toss" comes from Matheny's 2026 album Unified Field (Bar/None Records), an LP largely written and recorded in Ukraine and described by Matheny as an "aesthetic emergency"; a record made in solidarity with friends living under fire. It's his first return to Bar/None since 2011's Western Teleport, and one of his most fully realized, urgent works yet.
A Fistful of Vinyl is a DIY music channel documenting punk, hardcore, folk punk, and underground artists in intimate, stripped-back settings. New sessions drop every week week — subscribe and follow along as we dig deeper into the scene.
