Description
"There's often hope in our songs... even though we're miserable."
The Most Trusted Man In Music is joined by Tom Smith and Justin Lockey of @editorsofficial to discuss the band's eighth studio album, Surface, Echo & Sound.
Tom and Justin take John Kennedy through the whole record track by track to discuss how this entry in the Editors catalogue marks a deliberate shift away from the heavily programmed, studio-built approach of the group's previous three records (In Dream, Violence and EBM), returning towards a more “human", live band approach.
Tom explains how the album's themes concern finding refuge from the “noise” of the modern world, how they group allowed songs to be "smaller" and more intimate and their concept of keeping the songs interconnected.
"Surface Echo & Sound is a reference to the noise of the world we find ourselves in - and the way we're bombarded with the events going on around us."
As Justin says, Surface, Echo & Sound "keeps us in the era of the album in a world that doesn't really live in the era of the album anymore".
