Driving through Houston should not feel like accidentally committing a crime… but that’s exactly what happened when I found myself trapped in the city’s endless “EZ TAG ONLY” toll roads.
Every sign screamed:
“NO CASH.”
“EZ TAG ONLY.”
“VIOLATORS PROSECUTED.”
But nowhere did the system clearly explain that out-of-town drivers can still legally use the roads and simply pay by mail later.
As someone just passing through town, the entire experience felt unnecessarily aggressive, confusing, and honestly stressful. In this rant vlog, I break down why Houston’s toll system might actually discourage tourism and create anxiety for visitors who are unfamiliar with Texas toll roads.
I compare it to toll systems I’ve experienced in places like China, Ohio, and other parts of the world — where drivers are at least clearly informed about their options instead of feeling threatened every few miles.
