This is the SECOND time I've drawn a feathered raptor since my first attempt in 2015. My FIRST attempt https://youtu.be/o58Uf3vWaNg wasn't very good, hopefully I've improved a little over the years.
This attempt is very different from my original approach. The first time was purely pencil, this time I wanted to try some new techniques using digital brushes to help give a faster more impressionistic approach to the feathers. I also attempted to go for a more scientifically accurate approach to how the feathers look.
This raptor isn't any specific Raptor. It's mostly inspired by Jurassic Park Velociraptors with a hint of Indoraptor in it's colouring.
I also wanted to give it some wattling around it's eye. The kind of skin texture that you see around chickens, vultures and other large birds. I thought adding this style around it's eye would give it a more bird like, but still menacing look.
I didn't feel the need to narrate this video as I I'm still debating how useful narration is, but giving a thorough insight into my thought process via the description should give those who are interested, a little more insight as to why I went with this approach. Sometimes you just feel like sketching digitally, and this way I can record what I'm doing without worrying about setting up a camera all the time.
