Description
Dorothea had no formal qualifications when she marched into the Natural History Museum asking for a job at just 19 years old.
She went on to become an internationally renowned palaeontologist, known for her groundbreaking fossil mammal discoveries and her work in archaeozoology.
One of the first women scientists to work at the Museum, Dorothea made her earliest fossil discoveries in caves in the cliffs above the River Wye. There, she identified 15 species of mammals and birds dating back around 10,000 years.
Her work took her across the Mediterranean, where she made a series of remarkable discoveries that still inspire scientists today.
