Many photographers want to illuminate the dark shadow on the lower part of the face using another light source or reflector. One of the important reasons that is often overlooked is that the eyes become teary.
Additionally, this glare from below can often cover the lower part of the pupil, giving the illusion that the pupil is not round and evoking not always desirable associations. So if someone tells you that you look like a sheep or a goat, it doesn't necessarily mean they're trying to insult you. Maybe in the photo, your pupils do look like those of a cow, sheep, goat, or toad.
Usually, when shooting in the studio there is a model light, but its brightness can vary. Some photographers make model light at full power, so that auto-focus works better. However, one of the factors that is rarely addressed is the size of the pupils. Although the brightness of the flash does not change, portraits are different.
