Description
Are U.S. Treasuries really safe havens again after yesterday's sharp rally in government bonds and sell-off in precious metals?
In today's video, I explain why I believe the bond market's renewed safe-haven status is an illusion. With the U.S. government trapped in a structural debt spiral, persistent deficits, currency debasement and the growing risk of stagflation, government bonds remain a poor long-term store of wealth.
We also look at the Federal Reserve's role in supporting the Treasury market, the gradual erosion of the dollar-based monetary system and why Wall Street has a vested interest in maintaining confidence in government debt.
Using a 1908 gold coin and a 1930 German government bond, I explain why physical gold remains the ultimate long-term monetary safe haven, while Treasuries may offer only temporary protection during financial market turmoil.
