The scale lies, but a DEXA scan tells the brutal truth. If you're serious about building muscle over 50, you need to know exactly what you're made of.
That's why my personal muscle-growth plan relies on DEXA scans, not just the mirror. It tracks three critical metrics: Lean Muscle Mass (so I know my workouts are working), Body Fat Percentage (so I don't get too fluffy during my bulk), and Bone Density.
For us older guys, bone density and lean mass are huge predictors of longevity and injury prevention. Seeing those numbers go up is just as satisfying as seeing my bench press increase. Don't guess with your health: get scanned, set a baseline, and get to work.
