The Opposition rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan has prompted unprecedented security arrangements across the national capital. Delhi has been turned into a fortress ahead of Rahul Gandhi and other INDIA bloc leaders’ programme, which is being held to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the SIR exercise. The INDIA bloc is targeting a gathering of 50,000 people. Delhi Police is on high alert, with special attention even being paid to potential disruptions by cockroaches! Around 200–250 HD CCTV cameras have been installed for surveillance, along with AI-powered facial recognition cameras. A dedicated live monitoring control room will keep a close watch on the proceedings. More than 3,000 police personnel and paramilitary forces have been deployed. The Ramlila Maidan area has been divided into 14 zones, each under the supervision of an officer of ACP rank. Eight senior police officers will oversee the entire security arrangement. Special evacuation routes have also been prepared to ensure a swift exit in case of an emergency. The rally has been granted permission from 10 AM to 5 PM.
