Sir David turned 100 in May 2026 and has spent seven decades bringing the Earth’s animals and plants to the living rooms of millions of people around the world, teaching them about the diverse lifestyles, behaviours and adaptations of living things.
In this discussion, we will reflect on how Sir David’s work has inspired and influenced conservationists, zoologists, science communicators and wildlife filmmakers, and will explore the radical changes to the natural world throughout his remarkable life.

Dr Sandra Knapp OBE FRS – Botanist, taxonomist, Director of Research at the Natural History Museum, and author and editor of over 30 books including Flower Day: A Story of 24 Hours and 24 Floral Lives (2025)
Gaia Vince – Environmental journalist, broadcaster and author of several books, including Nomad Century (2022) and Adventures in the Anthropocene, winner of the 2015 Royal Society Trivedi Science Book Prize
Samira Ahmed (Chair) – Journalist, writer, broadcaster and presenter of the BBC’s Front Row and Newswatch, and author of a BFI Film Classics book about the Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night
