What is it that drives us to seek adventure? Why do we bust a gut slinging bikes on to sweaty backs to scale impossibly steep mountains in search of… well, what exactly?
Monster is a mountain bike short set against the haunting backdrop of the Mer de Glace in the French Alps. Inspired by Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, the film explores the inner turmoil of the adventure rider — the uncontrollable monster that rises within during moments of struggle, to compel us to push ourselves further, in search of unknown rewards.
Embracing a 1200 metre hike-a-bike ascent to reach an overnight bivouac, the film documents an adventure that is both liberation and confrontation; a blurring of the line between rider and creature, between control and collapse, between risk and reward.
