The Transport Rebuild East Coast (TREC) team is carrying out recovery work at Mangahauini Gorge on State Highway 35.
Crews have built a roughened channel which is designed to help control the river and reduce the risk of ongoing damage to SH35. Installed up to 2.5 metres deep, these large concrete blocks (hanbars) help guide water flow and protect the road during high river events.
