Description
A heist that could be crypto's biggest yet has taken a turn. Binance says investigators have uncovered more points of breach in the reported US$6.3b hack, after initially tracing it to a compromised employee laptop. The crypto firm calls it a "complex attack" and is working with authorities to trace and freeze stolen assets. Around US$3b frozen so far, including funds held in digital currencies tied to the US dollar. Binance has pledged to cover all losses using emergency reserves and company resources, insisting customer funds are safe. It expects to resume withdrawals over the next two days. Blockchain intelligence firms TRM Labs and Chainalysis say the hack can be traced to North Korea-linked group, TraderTraitor.
