Canola production in Western Canada is not for the faint of heart. Despite the challenges on and off the field, Bayer has found a way to create a win:win in canola production, thanks to TruFlex® LibertyLink® dual trait canola.
The truth about TruFlex® LibertyLink®
If you’ve never grown TruFlex® LibertyLink® canola, chances are you may not know why growers are jumping on board with this latest canola innovation. TruFlex® LibertyLink® canola carries dual traits, bred with tolerance to both Liberty® and Roundup® herbicides. The benefits are clear for growers facing the complexities of herbicide-resistant weeds.
Here’s why. We all know that controlling weeds early helps ensure strong stand establishment and the key to unlocking your crop’s high yield potential. Consider herbicide-tolerant volunteer canola. Roundup alone will not control that weed, so it’s important to add another product to the tank or follow your Roundup burndown with an application of Liberty herbicide to get the job done. You can also count on TruFlex® LibertyLink® canola to manage glyphosate-resistant kochia, wild oats, cleavers and waterhemp as well as volunteer cereals.
A customized approach to weed management
Growing TruFlex® LibertyLink® canola creates exceptional flexibility in your production system. You can select the herbicide options that work best for you, based on your individual fields, environment and weed spectrum. And because TruFlex® LibertyLink® canola is tolerant to both Liberty and Roundup, you don’t have to rinse your spray tank in between applications. Dual trait canola will continue to thrive following applications of either product. The system also offers a wider application window than conventional glyphosate-resistant systems. Extended spray timing flexibility helps you stay on track when weather delays and changing field conditions put pressure on application timing.

Kris Klammer and his family farm 4,000 acres south of Vegreville, AB. He’s sold on the TruFlex® LibertyLink® system. Says Kris: “When you switch from Roundup to Liberty, you’re not cleaning out the sprayer. You can never make a mistake spraying on the wrong canola. I have recommended dual trait hybrids to my neighbors and others.”
TruFlex® LibertyLink® hybrids are competitive in yield
These dual trait hybrids won’t make you choose between yield or flexibility. Based on 30 field trials in 2025, for example, TruFlex® LibertyLink® hybrids averaged a 3.4% yield advantage over InVigor® L340PC*.
To demonstrate its confidence in the TruFlex® LibertyLink® production system, Bayer has launched The Battle of the Bushels, in which 15 Saskatchewan canola growers track their crop’s progress and yield using this dual trait technology. Come harvest time, there will be one winner who scores the highest yields with the TruFlex® LibertyLink® system. To follow along on their progress, go to: battleofthebushels.ca
Reap the rewards at harvest
Bayer has made certain that your win:win with dual trait technology runs all the way through to harvest. TruFlex® LibertyLink® hybrids include the Straight Cut Plus trait for enhanced pod shatter protection, early maturity and quick, natural drydown. The new hybrids also offer clubroot and blackleg resistance. And because your dual trait crop is glyphosate-resistant, you can still apply Roundup to catch those late-emerging weeds before or after harvest.
There’s no doubt that the TruFlex® LibertyLink® canola production system can be a win:win on your acres. That’s a win for managing resistant weeds and a win for the best-in-class yields you can expect. To learn more about how to win:win in canola, go to: winwincanola.ca
