Start with a clean work area.

Cleaning patches
Bore Cleaner
Cleaning rod
Cleaning brush (brass etc)
Rag
Stiff plastic brush
Cotton swabs
Oil

Step 1: Place the safety lever in the SAFE position.

Step 2: Press the magazine catch forward and remove magazine.

Step 3: Pull the charging handle to the rear and inspect chamber for ammunition.

Step 4: Remove midlock and rearlock pins.

Step 5: Brace lower receiver, grasp charging handle, pull slightly to rear and hold.

Step 6: Lift rear of upper receiver and remove from lower receiver.

Step 7: Wet a cleaning patch with bore cleaner and push patch through bore from breech using a cleaning rod.

Step 8: While bore is wet scrub bore with a cleaning brush attached to cleaning rod.

Step 9: ENSURE BRUSH EXITS MUZZLE and breech on each pass.

Step 10: Apply a small amount of bore cleaner to a chamber brush and clean the chamber.

Step 11: Push dry cleaning patches through the bore from breech to Muzzle, REPEAT STEPS 9-13 until PATCHES COME OUT clean.

Step 12: Ensure chamber is dry.

Step 13: Wipe all surfaces of the muzzle brake to remove residual solvents.

Step 14: Use a stiff plastic brush to remove carbon from both the extractor and the ejector.

Step 15: Depress the ejector and extractor by hand to ensure their function.

Step 16: Clean the remainder of the rifle with cotton-tipped swabs, general purpose brushes and rags.

Step 17: Make sure all mechanical metal surfaces are coated with preservative oil.

Step 18: Lubricate upper receiver along bolt latch trip and the barrel.
