Description
Clayface has a major Batman problem, and it has nothing to do with whether the movie is actually good. DC Studios' R-rated body horror film takes audiences into Gotham City, but there's one very important character missing: Batman himself.
Directed by James Watkins and written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, Clayface stars Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen, a struggling actor whose transformation becomes a disturbing origin story. While the movie has earned generally positive reviews, its lack of connections to the wider DC Universe raises some serious questions about James Gunn and Peter Safran's plans.
With Superman established, Supergirl struggling to make the same impact, and The Brave and the Bold still without a release date, is the DCU spending too much time building side stories instead of introducing its biggest heroes?
We examine why Batman's absence matters, how Clayface compares to standalone successes like Joker and The Penguin, and whether Robert Pattinson's The Batman Part II could be influencing the DCU's timeline.
Plus, we explore what Man of Tomorrow could mean for the future of Batman, Wonder Woman, and the interconnected DC Universe.
Can Clayface succeed on its own while still representing a missed opportunity for the DCU?
