The 78th Cannes Film Festival took place from May 13 to 24, 2025. Directed by Qu Zhizheng, the short film 12 Moments Before the Flag Raising Ceremony was selected for the La Cinef section and won the Second Prize. Known for its subtle emotional expression and distinctive visual style, the film drew considerable attention. Before heading to Cannes, director Qu Zhizheng and cinematographer Cao Liuming were invited to the Cooke Optics Beijing office for an in-depth interview about their shooting experience and visual approach.
12 Moments Before the Flag Raising Ceremony was filmed between February and March 2024 as a graduation co-production project at the Beijing Film Academy. During pre-production, the team applied to Cooke’s Student Support Program and successfully received a lens sponsorship. They chose four lenses from the Panchro/i FF series: 25mm, 40mm, 75mm, and 135mm.
