Fun start to the movie with you film damage/vintage/retro cue numbers and projector audio before great establishing shot with title font being very 70s TV - there's a deal of found footage here (copyright??). The scene outside hotel is considered and the grade maintains a muted 70's retro feel; though this isn't always consistent throughout; exterior shots. Sometimes it feels earlier to Hollywood 40's and later it moves towards
'New Wave' 60's impressionism? The audio could be cleaned up a little ...interesting mix of narration, foley and music but narration could be pulled forward or mids brought up? There is a blank screen (intentional?) which works well to punctuate or pause followed by some lovely montage of movement, soft focus, bleaching, slow-mo, overlays, conversation, smoking (lots), in different locations. The piano music (copyright??) works very well to evoke (or perhaps twist our arms) our appropriate sensibility to the visuals... welldone
This doesn't really follow your original proposal; this isn't a thriller, though there is some mystery here, what has Cynthia been up to in Hollywood. The 'story' is a little contrived and we're left with an indistinct impression of regret? However, there is something to be admired in all this.
