BFS (Bait Finesse System) bass fishing brings finesse presentations and casting gear together in a system built for light lures and light line. In this video, David Walker shows how he uses BFS tackle to catch bass with small baits while maintaining the control of a baitcaster.
Why BFS Bass Fishing Works
BFS bass fishing centers around casting equipment designed specifically for lightweight lures. Unlike traditional baitcasters, BFS reels feature shallow spools and specialized braking systems. This allows anglers can cast small finesse baits more effectively. Walker prefers casting gear, so BFS allows him to fish light line without switching to spinning tackle.
A Small Jig With Big Potential
Walker uses a compact soft plastic on a lightweight football-style Ned head. Additionally, he adds a small amount of skirt material to create a subtle jig profile. The finished bait resembles a worn-down finesse jig. However, its small profile makes it easy for bass to eat completely. Walker fishes the bait around deeper banks, shaded areas, points and nearby channel swings.
How Walker Fishes the Finesse Jig
Walker uses two primary retrieves with the lightweight football jig. First, he can pull the bait along the bottom like a traditional football jig. Alternatively, Walker uses quick turns of the reel handle to move the bait forward. Then, he allows it to fall back toward the bottom on slack line.
