Description
We returned to the Berlin region, ground that has seen history unfold in its darkest hours. Fields and forests that look peaceful today, but beneath the surface still hold the scars of World War II.
This area witnessed the final, desperate phase of the war. Retreating troops, abandoned positions, and equipment left behind in haste. With the Garrett detector ready, we started peeling back the layers of time.
Helmets emerging from the soil, weapon parts scattered like silent witnesses, heavy vehicle components buried where they fell and then something truly unexpected: a complete 8 cm mortar barrel, hidden underground for decades.
Each signal tells a story. Not of glory, but of chaos, urgency, and survival.
Join us as we uncover what the earth has kept secret since 1945.

FAQ:
-Do you report things found to the authorities?
Yes, all nasty things found like UXO's and finds that could be important from an archaeology perspective are reported to the local authorities. That includes dangerous WW2 relics like unexploded ordnance (UXOs), grenades, artillery shells or live ammunition we sometimes uncover during battlefield archaeology in Germany.
-Do you sell finds?
I am a collector myself so I hardly sell relics. But if I do then I'll post it on the social media pages or check out my Patron's website. I share finds with my Patrons (check the Patreon website for more details). Most of my WW2 relics, like helmets, badges, medals or personal soldier items, stay in my private collection.
-How do you gain permission for metal detecting?
Check out local laws regarding metal detecting and get permission from the landowner. Or hook up with a local metal detecting club in the area you would like to detect and get your information from them. (I stopped responding to questions like this all together, I'm Iron Mike not Google Mike..)
-Can I come with you?
No.
-Do you love me?
Yes I do!
-Will you marry me?
No, lets just be friends.
What kind of relics do you usually find?
We often dig up WW2 German relics such as helmets, medals, badges, bayonets, ammunition, trench art, personal items and sometimes even rare decorations. Every battlefield tells a different story – from the forests of the Courland Pocket to the ruins of Berlin’s final stand.
-I want to see more!
Go check out the social media pages, or consider becoming a Patron! Patrons have access to much more, special videos, behind the scenes footage and WW2 goodie boxes containing relics me and my friends found over the years. On our Patreon website you can also find exclusive content about WW2 relic hunting trips to places like Berlin, the Courland Pocket, and other trips including Norway, France, Belgium and Austria.
-What metal detector do you use?
The Garrett Vortex VX9. Excellent detector for WW2 relic hunting, from bayonets and helmets to rare decorations.
-Camera?
Go Pro 7, Go Pro 10 and a Panasonic handy cam
-Favorite find?
Deep Digger Dan's YouTube channel.
-What is on your bucket list?
Hitler's lost gold or the missing Nazi gold train everybody is searching for. But until then I am happy with whatever pops up, I even enjoy finding landmines... :-s
Other dream finds would be rare WW2 medals like the Knight’s Cross, SS relics, or even personal belongings from the different battleground we visit.
