In many Muslim circles, our narratives highlight the rich diversity of the Muslim cultures of the world. We should also confront the taboo topic of the manner in which Black Muslims have been treated and mistreated, and how a stereotype of inferiority based on race has arisen.
In addition to the structural power dynamics of white supremacy, it is also important to confront Arab and South Asian hegemony and anti-black perspectives that are often unchallenged in our homes, centers and mosques. The murder of our brother George Floyd is another reminder of how black communities experience multiple forms of injustice.
This webinar focuses on both overt and private anti-black racism in Muslim communities, and the ways in which this bias can be addressed via alternative voices, actors and active resistance, premised on balance and honesty.
Our panel consists of Nimco Ali, anti-FGM campaigner and Feminist, and Mansour Al Hadj, Writer and Human Rights activist. It is chaired by Quilliam US's Executive Director, Dr. Muhammad Fraser-Rahim.
