Beat Butcha returns to the evil with Filth Vol. 9. An architect of grimy hip hop with recent placements on records by J. Cole, A$AP Rocky, Conway and Larry June, Butcha blesses beatmakers and producers with the darkest material he’s cut since the first two Filth releases. Inspired heavily by the occult, classic prog records and European soundtracks, Filth Vol. 9 is the most hip hop sample library in recent memory.
The chops are cut from longer compositions, with plenty of BPM variation for experimentation. Some weren’t tracked to a click, so the tempo is a starting point, not a rule. Alongside them sit live breaks and the genre-defining drum loops Butcha is known for.
Filth Vol. 9 is a collection that won’t constrain creativity. Every sound is 100% original, played live on a live drum kit, Baldwin upright piano, Rhodes Mk I, Wurlitzer, Hofner bass, Fender Jazzmaster, Rhodes Chroma, Moog Voyager, Roland SH-1000 and Solina String Ensemble, captured on 70s and 80s vintage microphones and run through Roland Chorus Echo, Binson Echorec, Mu-Tron Bi-Phase and Chorus Ensemble, then Neve 542s with the silk circuit, dbx 165, Dolby 362, Gainlab Empress EQ and Dictator tube compressor on the way in.
