Sampling Barbara Dane’s version of the folk classic “Nine Hundred Miles,” I turned this story of a homesick traveler into something very personal. For me, the song is all about travel and the homesickness that comes with touring, something I (and most artists) know a bit too well. Being on the road so much means I’m constantly missing home and family, and that feeling is such a universal, human thing.
For the video, I wanted to bring little pieces of my own life into it. I worked with a graphic designer on a hand-drawn style that includes things that remind me of home, like my beloved Range Rover, a cosy fireplace, and nature. Even though the theme is homesickness, making this track, artwork and video actually felt uplifting, like carrying home with me wherever I go.
