Baby is HERE !!! Labor & delivery - part two

Still amazes me how different all 5 of my labor and deliveries have been. Some predictability would be nice 🤣

I did end up getting the epidural around midnight. It was the most painful epidural insertion I’ve ever had - and again not my first rodeo but rather my 5th one ! I looked at the nurse and said it does feel right. I always remember a pinch but it was feeling way different ( I ended up being extremely sore and bruised up my back the next few days) . Perhaps it’s because my body was already so exhausted. It was the middle of the night after all . And I went from not being in labor at all to forcing my body to dilate and progress in a short amount of time. The contractions were fine at first . Very strong from the beginning but tolerable with movement, hip squeezes and holding wooden birthing combs in each hand. However about an hour in ( roughly 10pm ) they started getting closer and closer like 2 minutes apart kind of close. I would two strong contractions back to back and then achy cramping in between across my low back and front. Then another surge would start. I wasn’t getting a break. They were starting to feel extremely sharp - almost like knives were cutting me from the inside out. I’ve never experienced these type of sharp pains in labor before. I remember strong cramps that built up to wrap around tightening and then relaxing in between. ( remember the failed epidural with my 3rd ?!) So anyways, when they checked me at about 11:30 and I was only 4 cms dilated - which was only 1 more centimeter than when I was admitted. I started to panic that we may have over stimulated my uterus. Maybe that’s why they felt so beyond stabbing sharp and close together but minimal progress?
By 1 am I told the nurse to call the dr that the baby would be coming around 2 am - just going off pure intuition and how the contractions are feeling. She checked me and I was finally at 7 cms !! Thankful for progress. But she said she couldn’t call the dr until I was ‘closer’ to having him. That the bag was bulging and my water hadn’t broken yet so we had time. I said okkkkkk .

Around 1:50 am I asked her to check me again because I was feeling the I have to poop sensation. I was 9 cms. She immediately called for the Dr to get to the hospital. I warned her that even though he was still up high that once my water broke he would come out really fast and to be prepared to help me catch him. She assured me that wouldn't happen. Dr arrived a bit after 2 am - not sure exactly when because I was in the zoneeeee. My nurse reminded him I didn't want to do coached pushing or to deliver on my back.
Dr left the room and the nurse helped me moo and breath through my contractions doing a more down and out mindset - no necessarily push but concentrating. I could feel him engage past my pubic bone and I yell to her to get the Dr. As she was saying oh he's barely there and I replied with he's coming out right now!! And she ran to grab the Dr as my body naturally took over and ejected him. I leaned down to catch his head coming out right as they all reentered the room to help me catch him. And voila he was here at 2:39 am. I reminded them to not cut the cord until it stopped pulsing and was fully white and that I wanted to naturally deliver the placenta. By 3 am we were alone in our delivery room to enjoy the most cuddly golden hour. He latched on to nurse a bit and we were just in absolute awe of the whole thing. Will update with how postpartum is going shortly:) thank you so much to those that have checked in on us !!
