Alexander Scriabin – Mazurka in B minor, Op. 3 No. 1
Composed in 1888–1889, Scriabin’s Ten Mazurkas, Op. 3 belong to the very beginning of his artistic journey. Still deeply rooted in the Chopinesque tradition, these early works already reveal a personal voice: refined harmonic sensibility, expressive rubato, and an intense inward lyricism.
The Mazurka in B minor, Op. 3 No. 1 opens the cycle with a character that is intimate and slightly melancholic. The dance impulse is present but subdued, filtered through a poetic atmosphere rather than folkloric exuberance. Subtle rhythmic inflections, delicate voicing, and flexible tempo are essential to preserving its fragile emotional balance.
In this performance, I aim to highlight the piece’s introverted lyricism, the gentle tension between motion and suspension, and the early signs of Scriabin’s unmistakable expressive world.
The performance was recorded using a Bösendorfer concert grand piano model in Pianoteq, chosen for its clarity, warmth, and dynamic response.
