Passengers on Air India flight AI-131 from Mumbai to London Heathrow faced an unexpected delay after a technical fault was discovered in one of the engines of the originally scheduled aircraft, a Boeing 777-300ER registered VT-AEM. As a precaution, the aircraft was grounded, and passengers were asked to disembark. After a delay of approximately three hours, a replacement aircraft— another Boeing 777-300ER, registered VT-AER— was brought in for the journey. Once preparations were complete, boarding resumed, and AI-131 finally departed Mumbai in light showers, climbing through the overcast skies on its way to London.

Following the Air India plane crash, the airline has adopted a far more cautious and proactive approach to safety. Now, even minor technical issues— especially those related to critical systems like engines— are treated with utmost seriousness. If any fault is detected, no risks are taken: flights are delayed if necessary, and aircraft are often swapped out entirely to ensure passenger safety. This practice has been observed on multiple occasions since the incident, reflecting a clear shift in operational protocol and a commitment to prioritizing safety above all else.
