On April 6th, we celebrated the 80th birthday of Professor Kuppuswamy Anantha Padmanabhan and his distinguished contributions to science. To mark the occasion, Professor Sriram Subramanian (University College London) thrilled us all with his work on ultrasonic levitation.
Acoustic levitation uses the force of sound waves, specifically standing waves, to counteract gravity. By creating a pressure node, small objects (like water droplets or electronic components) can be suspended in mid-air.
