Description
In 1739, Elizabeth Blackwell published her breathtaking botanical guidebook A Curious Herbal. During the 1720s, various species of exotic plants had begun to arrive in London from all over the British Empire. However, there was no detailed guide to these specimens available to the wider public. Blackwell decided to fill this gap in the market. Working with Isaac Rand, then curator of the Chelsea Physick Garden, she set out to produce an illustrated compendium depicting the different types of medicinal plants and herbs found across the globe.
