7 things I refuse to spend money on as a 46-year-old financial planner who practises what she preaches...
1. Credit card interest
Never.
💰 I don't even own a credit card. If I can't pay for it with cash, I wait.
2. Designer logos
💰 I love timeless style. I just don't like paying hundreds of dollars to advertise someone else's brand.
3. Daily takeaway coffee
💰 I genuinely prefer my homemade coffee, and I'd rather put the savings towards investing or creating memories with my family.
4. Takeaway lunches
💰 I'd rather make lunch during the week and enjoy a beautiful café on the weekend, where I can slow down and savour the experience.
5. Cheap products I'll have to replace
💰 Buying something twice is usually more expensive than buying something well once.
6. Overpriced skincare
💰 I look for products with proven ingredients, not premium price tags or expensive marketing.
7. Duplicates of things I already own
💰 Clutter costs money, space and mental energy.
People often assume being good with money means saying "no" to everything.
It doesn't.
It simply means becoming really intentional about what deserves your money.
I happily spend money on travel, quality food, investing for my future, fresh flowers, beautiful bed linen and experiences with my children and Tom.
But these are seven things I've never felt were worth it.
The goal isn't to spend less.
It's to spend better.
