664 Mono Noir is the next chapter in the Mono Noir series by Tamuz, once again created entirely around a single vintage microphone. The source this time is an original 1950s Electro Voice 664, a broadcast classic prized for its dark tone, unique midrange, and instantly recognizable period character. Each sound was recorded across three placements, one crotch mic plus two room positions, giving the pack a roomy, punchy quality with real depth and natural ambience.
These recordings were driven hard into a vintage Pioneer reel to reel tape machine, then heavily shaped with EQ to open up a massive low end while holding onto the mic's dark, mid forward voice. From there they were pitched up and down, chopped, sliced, and run through a range of analog hardware and plugins to build distinctive textures without losing the raw personality of the 664. The overall feel stays saturated and spacious, like a real drummer tracked in a real room.
This sample pack features drum breaks, one shots, percussion loops, and hat loops created for Boom Bap, Lo Fi, Hip Hop, and sample based beatmaking. The one shots break down into kicks, toms, and snares alongside hats, cymbals, fills, and percussion, while the loops are split between hats and layered percussion.
