The Central Government has shared some good news for farmers. It has introduced the 'Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization' (SMAM) scheme to boost mechanization in agriculture and reduce costs. Under this scheme, subsidies ranging from 40% to 50% are provided for tractors, drones, and modern agricultural machinery; for certain items, the subsidy is as high as 100%. In this video, we will look at the full details of the scheme, eligibility criteria, and the application process. Under the SMAM scheme, a 50% subsidy is provided to SC, ST, small, marginal, and women farmers, while other farmers receive a 40% subsidy. To encourage the use of drones in agriculture, a subsidy of up to ₹5 lakh is offered. For certain categories, a maximum subsidy of Rs 10 lakh—effectively 100% is provided.
