This is a deal that I got off of eBay. 2014 CX5 Touring. Retail Book value is about 12-13.8k depending on condition. I think we could sell at 12 pretty quickly and bank almost a 4k profit.
If we hold out, I think there is potential at mid to high 12's and maybe even 13k if we want to sit on it for a month, maybe more.
So how did I find this deal?
Because I scan a lot of sites including eBay, I ended up seeing it listed on eBay for 10,500 BUY IT NOW*. I thought it was a pretty good deal and saved it to my watchlist.
The next day it was sold.
Bummer.
Then a week later I notice that the seller had listed the vehicle again!
This is common because not all buyers will end up walking the walk if you know what I mean. The buyer must have had cold feet and decided to back out.
Anyway, The price was now at 10,000 obo.
I made an offer of 7,300 just for the heck of it and the seller messaged back and said that the battery had just died and they don't have time to fix it etc and the car doesn't start... "But it runs!" they said...
This was my leg up on negotiating.
I talked my bit, and made another offer for 8,000 and promised that if they accepted it, I would wire the money that day! That I would call my bank NOW.... send me your banking details and I'll make a move now!
Done deal.
Most times to get the best deals, you need to be ready and you need to have the guts to make it happen.
Yes the car could have more problems, yes the owner could have been lying, but I took a shot based on my gut feeling, and it was all ok.
I paid my tow man to replace the battery when he got there and to make extra sure it would start before he towed it back.
...And it did start, with no problems.
An extra $50 for the batt install, $120 for a new battery, but it was well worth my investment.
That's pretty much all the car needed. I did end up adding a new air filter, spark plugs and an oil change. Super cheap value-adding options.
Here's the thing, you won't get deals like this every week, or maybe every month. But if you keep looking and scanning, you will come across some pretty sweet deals if you take the leap. Just do it, and you will find deals. Stay positive! Stay focused!
