➡️EV sales are still booming in Europe and now VW’s tapping into one of the biggest electric sectors with the ID. Cross SUV.
A big brother to the ID. Polo that was revealed earlier this year. the ID. Cross is based on the same MEB+ platform as that car and its Cupra Raval and Skoda Epic cousins. It heads into battle against the Renault 4 E-Tech and Kia EV2.
Buyers can choose between two battery packs and three power outputs, all delivered from a single-motor setup driving the front wheels. The entry-level version pairs an 114 hp (116 PS / 85 kW) electric motor with a 37 kWh battery, while higher trims offer either a 133 hp (136 PS / 99 kW) motor using the same battery, or a 208 hp (211 PS / 155 kW) version coupled to a larger 52 kWh pack.
The 298 hp flagship combination delivers a projected WLTP driving range of up to 436 km, or 271 miles. Stick with the base 37 kWh pack and the range drops to 196 miles (316 km).
Those batteries are borrowed from the ID. Polo, as is the premium-looking interior with its cloth-covered dashboard and generous helping of real buttons on both the console and steering wheel.
Sales start this fall, and European prices kick off at €28,000, which puts it on a par with the Renault 4. But Kia’s EV2, while having a smaller trunk, is a few grand cheaper, comes with 144 hp as standard and is going to prove a tough rival.
