By the mid-1980s, General Motors’ large cars, the B- and C-bodies were on the verge of being downsized yet again. Nineteen eighty-five was the pivotal year between rear-drive, body-on-frame cars and the smaller, lighter front-drive, unibody cars.

This two-door example, a Delta 88 Royale Brougham LS, was assembled at the GM’s Clark Street factory in Detroit, Michigan in April 1985 and delivered to Weil Oldsmobile in Libertyville, Illinois. Dressed in Dark Teal Blue Metallic (code 31), with a gold accent strips (code 55A), the car’s paint and trim are in overall very good order but there are some trim pieces that are weathered and show blemishes. The car’s body-colored padded landau roof and opera lights (code C04) (code C93) is broken off on one corner. There is a dent on the passenger door. The car’s chrome bumpers fit tightly to the body. The cargo area is in very good order and the engine bay is very tidy.

This B-body rolls on white stripe radials, size 205/75R15 at all four corner and mounted on aluminum wheels (code PH6) topped with simulated wire wheel covers (code N95) and factory mud flaps. The tires have less than 3,300 miles on them and the tires and wire wheels are in good, original order.

Under the hood is a 307 CID V-8 engine (code LV2) with a four-barrel carburetor. In 1985, roller lifters, floating piston wrist pins and swirl port intake runners were added. Backing this motor is a four-speed Turbo Hydramatic automatic transmission (code THM200-4R) with torque convertor clutch (code MX0) and a 2.73:1 final drive. Driver convenience features include air-conditioning (code C60) power recirculating ball steering, power brakes with discs in front, cruise control (code K34), power locks, power windows (code A31), driver’s side remote control sideview mirror (code D35), rally mirrors, tinted glass, intermittent wipers (code CD4), reminder package or idiot lights (code Y67) and power antenna (U75).

The car’s air-conditioning system has been converted to use R134a refrigerant from R12.

Inside, the car’s Dark Blue Cloth interior (code 27E) is in great shape. The two-spoke deluxe steering wheel looks great. The front and rear bench seats appear pillow soft and the front features a fold-down center armrest. There’s matching carpeting. The dashboard features a ribbon-style speedometer and fuel gauge along with an array of idiot light reminders (code Y67). A Delco-GM AM/FM extended range stereo with seek and scan and auto-reverse cassette deck (code UM6), which works except for LED display. There are dual rear speakers to match the front speakers (code U66) and a power antenna (code U75). Other accessories include dome lamps and dual lens reading lamps (code C95). A column-mounted shift lever rounds out the interior.

If you are a fan of the classic GM B-bodies, this Oldsmobile coupe should really merit your consideration as your next classic car. Stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars today to check it out in person!
