Description

Did you know that over ₹104.5 crore worth of railway bedroll items have been stolen from Indian Railways?

An RTI filed by The Indian Express revealed that between 2022 and May 2026, more than 12.7 million (1.27 crore) bedroll items—including bedsheets, towels, blankets, and pillow covers—were stolen from Indian Railways.

Surprisingly, most of these thefts occurred in AC coaches, where passengers are generally expected to be more responsible. The most stolen item was the face towel, mainly because it's easy to carry.

What's even more shocking is that, in many cases, the financial burden falls on the onboard railway staff, with deductions reportedly made from their salaries when items go missing.
