My friend Dave Cohen, Vermont's bike advocate (vbikesolutions.org) takes me to test kayaking without cars. He loaded a Tucktec and an Oru Inlet (tucktec.com) and an Oru Inlet (orukayak.com) on one of his cargo e-bikes, and I borrowed a Bike Friday e-bike. We rode about 5 miles to the Old Ferry Road boat launch in Brattleboro, Vermont, and put them together. We took about a 1 1/2 hour paddle and biked back to town.

My takeaways. It's great to bike to kayaking! The kayaks seem like they won't work, but they did. The older Tucktec needed a few foam pads to stay completely dry, but seemed tough. The Oru Inlet stayed dry, had a nice foot brace, was a bit bigger, and more aquadynamic, but not as tough. Both needed more seat padding for my old butt, of course. Overall, if you can afford it, I'd say these models are both probably improving and worth it if you can be gentle with them. Get a used sit-on-top or basic kayak if you need durability and want kids to play with them. And as I always say, rent before you buy if you can, and if you rent consistently, then buy, and buy used! Then take care of it, and you can sell it used, usually for about the same price you paid for it.
