A Difficult Decision: Why I’m stopping YouTube | Autism From The Inside

#autism #burnout #neurodiversity

After 10 years of weekly videos, I’ve made a decision.

I’m stopping YouTube… at least for now.

This wasn’t easy. I feel a strong loyalty to this community and the rhythm we’ve built together.

But if I’m going to recover properly from burnout, I need to focus on one thing at a time.

Right now, that one thing is finishing my book.

This isn’t goodbye forever.

It’s a deliberate pause so I can come back stronger and more aligned.

Thank you for being part of this journey.

👋Welcome to Autism From The Inside!!!

If you're autistic or think you or someone you love might be on the autism spectrum, this channel is for you! I'm Paul Micallef, and I discovered my own autism at age 30.

Yes, I know, I don't look autistic. That's exactly why I started this channel in the first place because if I didn't show you, you would never know.

Autism affects many (if not all!) aspects of our lives, so on this channel, I want to show you what Autism looks like in real people and give you some insight into what's happening for us on the inside. We'll break down myths and misconceptions, discuss how to embrace autism and live well, and share what it's like to be an autistic person.

Join me as I share what I've found along my journey, so you don't have to learn it the hard way.

Make sure to subscribe so you won’t miss my new video every Friday and some bonus content thrown in mid-week too.

snippet 2 let it go

Guide | 3 months ago

Sometimes overwhelm isn’t about too much coming in. It’s about not letting enough go. I hold onto ideas. Objects. Responsibilities. “Just in case.” But prioritising what to keep and what to throw away? That’s an executive function challenge. And when I keep...

One Polyvagal Trick Cured My Fatigue Overnight (No Seriously - I Didn’t Believe It Either!)

Guide | 3 months ago

#autism #fatigue #polyvagal For decades, I felt tired all day, every day. I could fall asleep within five minutes. I relied on power naps just to get through the afternoon… even though I was sleeping 8–10 hours every night. Recently, that changed. Not gradu...

I thought rest meant sleeping

Guide | 3 months ago

My nervous system didn’t know how to relax without shutting down. If I wasn’t working, I had to be sleeping. If I slowed down, my body switched everything off. So now I’m practising something new… staying awake while resting. Sometimes that looks like a gen...

Working for yourself is two jobs

When you work for yourself, you’re not just the employee. You’re also the manager. That means switching between big-picture strategy and detailed execution… and those require completely different brain modes. For me, that transition takes a huge amount of e...

I was trying to understand fatigue. Again and again, I read about inflammation, blood sugar spikes, and how constantly eating keeps the body in digestion mode. And digestion takes priority. So I started wondering… If my body needs repair (cognitive, physica...
