SPOTIFY AI CRACKDOWN
Spotify has deleted more than 75 Million songs from its platform over the past year, which it reckons are "AI Slop". It comes after a lot of talk lately about the use of AI in the music industry. You see, about 100,000 songs are uploaded to Spotify's servers every day, and while many are tracks created by real artists, an increasing number of them are being generated by AI. Experts say a big reason is how easy it's become to generate AI music. You see, platforms like Suno can instantly create AI songs from simple text prompts. It's why Spotify is adding features to make it easier for listeners to detect AI music. Spotify says they're not trying to stop artists and producers from using AI, but instead are encouraging mucisians to be more transparent if they do use AI.
TELEPROMPTER CONTROVERSY
A teleprompter operator working for US President Donald Trump has been accused of betting on the president's speeches to make money. You see, these clear glass panels help the President read a prepared speech without looking down at a script. The words are projected onto one side of the glass, but on the other side, the audience can see straight through. And because the teleprompter operators handle the President's scripts, they know what he's going to say ahead of time. The White House says one operator allegedly used that inside information to place bets on which words and phrases Mr Trump would use during his speeches. They allegedly made around $140,000 Australian dollars doing this! But have now been suspended.
DAYLIGHT SAVING
Daylight saving. Is it good, or is it bad? Well, that's a debate that has raged on for decades in the U.S, and now their government is taking steps to make daylight saving time permanent! This is the moment that the U.S House of Representatives passed the Sunshine Protection Act. This act is all about ditching standard time, which happens during the winter months, in favour of Daylight Saving time, which happens from March to November, effectively rolling the clocks forwards by an hour all year round. It's got people divided. Farmers have long been in favour of it because changing times twice a year can dirsupt their livestock and delay their harvesting, and health experts reckon that it can have big impacts of sleep schedules, which can lead to other more serious health and safety issues. But others say the permanent change would make winter mornings darker for longer, potentially making commutes more dangerous, and confusing our body clocks.
BLUE BLOB
Finally today, we're heading to Mount Gambier in South Australia. Where a controversial art sculpture is celebrating its first birthday. Blue cake, blue serviettes, and blue toys. It can only mean one thing. While pretty much everyone here calls it the blue blob, its official name is Cast In Blue, and it was inspired by the megafauna which once used to roam the area. Now, some people love it. But others aren't so sure about it. Especially since the council spent $136,000 to have it made, it's drawn a bit of criticism. And at one point, someone even stuck googly eyes to it using strong glue, causing thousands of dollars of damage. Love it or hate it, the blue blob is an example of how public art can be subjective. Sparking discussion and controversy in the community.
