How do I stop my washing machine from overfilling with water? The problem could be due to a faulty pressure switch. The function of a washing machine pressure switch is to regulate the level of water that enters the washer drum. If the pressure switch is faulty, it could mean that your washing machine thinks that it is full even though it isn't, or it could keep filling up with water, even though the water level has been reached.
