Want to rot-proof your trailer deck for next to nothing? Here is my go-to recipe for a long-lasting wood preservative using a 3/4 mix of used diesel motor oil and 1/4 raw diesel. The diesel thins the heavy oil so it spreads easily and soaks deep into the wood fibers.
Unlike Boiled Linseed Oil, this mixture never hardens or seals the wood shut. That means you can keep applying fresh coats over the years, and the wood will just keep drinking it up.
A few things to keep in mind:
It dries completely and is NOT slippery once cured.
This is a permanent commitment—the oil will repel water and any future stains or paints.
