In The Expanse, humanity is roughly 400 years into the future, spread across the solar system, and somehow still bringing all the old problems with it: power, class, labour, water, air, resentment, all drifting around like bad British weather on the one day I make plans.
That is the world your captain is stepping into. Earth. Mars. The Belt. Three powers and three very different ways of looking at the same broken solar system.
And now Owlcat have given us our first origins breakdown for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, which means we can finally dig into the bit I care about most: where your captain comes from, and how much trouble that causes!!
By the end of this, you’ll know what each origin changes, how your backstory comes through in the story, how the UNN, MCRN and OPA respond to you, the parts of the solar system that open up around you, and why this choice matters so much in The Expanse specifically.
