Mozart’s Fugue from the Suite in C major, K.399, is one of those pieces that seems almost too simple at first glance.
But that apparent simplicity is exactly where its genius begins. In this video, I take a closer look at how Mozart builds an entire musical argument from a very small theme: repeated notes, a falling line, overlapping voices, subtle harmonic turns, and a remarkable sense of balance.
This is not Mozart trying to sound like Bach. It is Mozart showing how naturally he could absorb the language of fugue and make it speak in his own voice.
