Everyone knows his name and his face, but not everyone understands how the difference between civil and criminal attorneys. In this clip, Crump answers the question himself.

Speaking with theGrio's Natasha S. Alford, the famed civil rights attorney breaks down what his role really is: a civil trial lawyer using the Seventh Amendment to fight for accountability where the government has too often failed Black families.

Crump calls it "the legacy of Trayvon Martin," a phenomenon barely 20 years old. Before that, families like Emmett Till's never saw a courtroom, let alone justice. "20 years ago, Black people would have no chance at justice," he says. "Black tears are just as painful as white tears, and Black pain hurts just as much as white pain."

And when it comes to Nolan Wells, Crump is clear about what's at stake: "There is no amount of value that you could give Christine or Elmore for their children's lives... I'd be damned if we're not gonna fight to say that our people can get some measure of justice."
