Description
This colorful chemistry demo is a highlight from Tommy Technetium Live in the Chemistry Lab 🧪🌈 The flask on the left starts at pH 3 (red), and the one on the right is at pH 10 (purple). When combined, the acids and bases neutralize, producing a striking green color at pH 7. But the reaction continues! Over time, dissolved carbon dioxide (CO₂) from the air reacts with water to form bicarbonate and hydrogen ions (CO₂ (aq) + H₂O ⇌ H⁺ + HCO₃⁻), gradually lowering the pH to around 6 — and shifting the color to yellow.
This experiment demonstrates:
Acid-base neutralization in action
Real-time pH color change with a universal indicator
How CO₂ absorption can subtly shift solution pH
🔬 Great for chemistry students, science fans, and anyone who loves a bit of rainbow logic in the lab!
