Waiting on the Fish to Commit! Windy Day Turns Into Big Smallmouth Bite on the St. Lawrence

SmallmouthCrush Guide 2 months ago

Description

Today was another windy one on the St. Lawrence River, but we were able to stay shallow most of the morning and put together a really solid day. The fish were relating tight to structure, and once we slowed down and made accurate casts, we started getting quality bites.

The main setup in the morning was a 1/4 oz Beast Coast Open Water Sniper Jig paired with a Berkley Little General in Green Pumpkin and Black Powder. We also caught fish on the Great Lakes Finesse 3/16 oz Football Head and the Z-Man NedlockZ in 1/6 oz.

By the afternoon trip, we mixed shallow and deep water and eventually found a big group offshore that was ready to eat. Those fish were caught on the 3/8 oz Beast Coast Open Water Sniper Jig and absolutely crushed it late in the day.

Rod setups today:

St. Croix Legend Elite 7’ Medium Light
St. Croix Legend X2 7’1” Medium Fast
8lb Cortland Master Braid
8lb Cortland Fluorocarbon Leader

We also added Pro Cure Smallmouth Crush Magic scent which definitely helped get a few extra bites in the tough conditions.
