Here’s the varnishing masterclass you never knew you wanted! I often get asked what the difference is between all of the @totalboat varnish products, so here’s the answer to that.

In order of thinnest to thickest viscosity, you have Wood Sealer, Gleam, and Lust. You also have gloss, satin, and matte versions of some of those, and they all have an amber tint and are all oil based.

You want to start with thinner coats to seal the wood and gradually get thicker as you build up coats. You can do that all with Lust and brushing thinner if you want (decreasing the amount of thinner as you go), or if you’re lazy like me, you can work your way up the product line like I did here.

Their other varnish product not shown here is Halcyon, which is their water based varnish, available in clear/amber and gloss/satin, but you apply it using the same exact method, but thin it with water instead of thinner.
