According to CDC data ER visits for tick bites are up 13 percent from 2025. One of the chief maladies ticks can carry is Lyme disease – a bacterial infection that can cause a host of health problems. If it's caught early, Lyme can be treated with antibiotics – and if it's not, it can cause chronic heart and neurological issues. Drug companies are working on Lyme vaccines, but they're not ready yet.
