In this profound discourse, Param Pujya Gurudev Anandmurti Gurumaa draws a clear distinction between likingness and love. She explains that what people experience for one another — physical attraction, mental attraction, appreciation, attachment, friendliness — all falls within the genre of likingness and intimacy, which is good and not wrong, but must not be mistaken for love. She states clearly that pure unconditional love does not happen in this world.
Gurudev explains that unconditional love flows only from the master and from God, and the reason it is possible only with the Guru is that the binding factor between a Guru and disciple is divinity itself — which is what makes that relationship divine. She says one must not love the Guru's body or the Guru's words but the Guru's presence, for that presence is divine. Using the image of iron being drawn to a magnet, she describes how a heart that already carries sparks of love within it, when it meets a master who is like a magnet, gets pulled completely and silently into that love — without the love even announcing its arrival.
