Indian startup Offgrid Energy Labs, born out of IIT research, is betting on zinc-bromine batteries instead of lithium-ion to power the future of long-duration energy storage. Its ZincGel technology is non-flammable, lasts over 20 years, supports 6–16 hours of energy storage, and reduces dependence on lithium and China's battery supply chain. Rather than manufacturing batteries itself, the company plans to license its technology globally, targeting AI data centers, renewable energy projects, and grid-scale storage, with its first manufacturing facility already operational in the UK.
